* Adorkable: Louis. He's soft-spoken, shy, polite, has huge crush on Peaches, tries to avoid danger, and likes digging.
* AntiClimaxBoss: The GiantEnemyCrab is quickly dispatched by a tornado before it can really start fighting the gang.
* AuthorsSavingThrow: Some fans had been missing the days of when Manny, Sid, and Diego were the only main protagonists. In this film, much of the film revolves around the three's journey to return home, with Ellie in a vital supporting role.
* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic:
** "Chasing the Sun" by Music/TheWanted.
** Captain Gutt's sea-shanty has a nice tune and is delightfully shameless in its bragginess.
** The song "We Are Family" sung by the entire cast over the end credits.
* CatharsisFactor: Considering how Gutt attempted to outright murder Manny's family for the sake of vengeance, it's hard to have any sympathy for him when he ultimately [[spoiler: ends up eaten alive by Siren(s)While a single Siren yanked Gutt into its clam, one or two back-fins belonging to other Sirens can be seen swimming near the clam, suggesting they intend to join their kin in feasting on their latest victim after being defeated in the climax]].
* ContestedSequel: Is this a good sequel or is it a sequel that shouldn't even exist. Despite that, it has a 62% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes which is a positive score and audiences gave the film an "A-".
* CriticalDissonance: Despite receiving mixed reviews, the film was a huge box office success, grossing $161 million in the domestic market and $715 million in other territories for a worldwide total of $877 million against it's $95 million budget. Along with its massive success both domestically and worldwide, audiences gave it mostly positive reviews, giving the film an "A-". The film currently holds an audience score of 62% on Rotten Tomatoes.

** Louis the molehog. He just oozes Moe.

* Fanon: It's also become extremely common to see fanfic writers have Diego and Shira use the terms “Kitty” and “Softy”, respectively, as pet names for each other.
* GermansLoveDavidHasselhoff: Its domestic gross of $161.3 Million was lower than that of even the first movie ($176.4 Million), but its international gross of of $715.9 Million was slightly ahead of the third's movie's gross of $690.1 Million.
* HilariousInHindsight: Louis the molehog, Peaches' best friend, is voiced by Josh Gad. One year later, Gad would voice another ice-related character: Olaf the snowman in Disney's WesternAnimation/Frozen2013.
** Captain Gutt could be considered PlayingAgainstType if you only know Creator/PeterDinklage as Tyrion Lannister from Series/GameOfThrones.
** We have Manny trying to break the trance by singing "The Candyman", which happened in the Creator/Dreamworks movie . This would later head in the opposite direction, with the RunningGag of Squint (the rabbit on Gutt's crew) being called the Easter Bunny... which would become a thing in Dreamworks' WesternAnimation/RiseOfTheGuardians.
%%* Moe: Louis the molehog.
* MoralEventHorizon: Captain Gutt crosses it by coming dangerously close to
* PortmanteauCoupleName: Shira + Diego = Shego, though the pairing is more commonly known on ff.net as "Dira."
* RetroactiveRecognition: Louis is Olaf.
* TheScrappy: Initially, a good many viewers disliked an adolescent Peaches due to her subplot being pretty much a copy and paste of a million teen sitcom cliches. Luckily, her CharacterDevelopment in the next film pulled her out of the Scrappy heap.
* StrangledByTheRedString: Diego and Shira's romance wasn't built up much, happens way too quickly, and unlike Manny and Ellie, they do not share any intimate emotional scenes that could grow Shira (or Diego) as characters through their romance but instead spend most of the time snapping at each other until Shira randomly decides to side with the herd. Heck, Shira remains an entirely one-dimensional LoveInterest throughout the film, something that sticks out like a sore thumb when one compares how well Ellie was written in The Meltdown.
* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter: The rest of Gutt's crew besides Gutt, Flynn, Shira, and Squint don't get any development/fleshing out and are mostly there to be muscle for the villains, also wasting some talented actors like Rebel Wilson and Kunal Nayyar.
* WereStillRelevantDammit: Likely the only reason why Nicki Minaj and Drake voice characters (and minor characters at that) is because the studio perceived them as being 'hip' with the kids.
* WhatAnIdiot: [[TooDumbToLive Sid gulps down a lotus berry that Diego vainly tries to warn him about, while bragging that he "knows [his] berries"]]. The end result not only leaves him temporarily paralyzed from the neck down and reauired to be dragged around by Manny for a while, but also causes the ship that the Herd were going to use to narrowly take off without them, forcing them to chase it down as Gutt and his crew catch on to Manny's plan and chase them down in turn for revenge.

Well, judging from what I gathered: 1) Apparently, Shira is more of a Base Breaking Character than a true Scrappy, which I read in the YMMV of the 5th film and 2) Peaches was Rescued From The Scrappy Heap in the last film.

** Many people see Shira as little more than a boring "tough girl" clone of one of the main characters (much like WesternAnimation/LolaBunny) who only exists to serve as a LoveInterest. Not only that, her pretty white fur and flawless face sticks out like a sore thumb amongst the more ugly pirates, with the only part of her that's even remotely asymmetric being that she only has earrings on one ear.

Seeing as this is a YMMV page (and thus rather subjective), I made some modifications to the 2 'The Scrappy' entries to make them more subjective (among other edits).
