• Harsher in Hindsight: The problems faced by the characters in this episode mirror a lot of issues with environmentalism in the later 2010s and 2020s. Most notable is Carly's electric scooter. Mr. Henning points out that creating and charging the battery produces more pollution than if she'd simply taken the bus, which is very much an issue with electric cars today (some of which actually contribute to more CO2 emissions than regular cars before they've even hit the street). Freddy importing his worms from Portugal (thus creating quite a lot of pollution from having to fly them over) also resembles a common criticism of celebrities who espouse environmentalist messages while flying on private jets.
  • The nuclear generator built by Cal is also treated as a serious crime against nature by Mr. Henning when he figures out what it is, even though nuclear power is actually one of the more environmentally safe forms of power currently available.
