• Unintentionally Sympathetic: Thomas. When the flashback shows his and Flora's argument after splitting up for months and talking again, Flora's actions compared to Thomas being seemingly logical for concern of their unborn baby (as well as unknowingly being Flora's battery for years) paints Thomas in this light for some readers, despite the author being clear that both sides of the relationship was indeed abusive.
