• Alternate Character Interpretation: Robin never wanted children but learning that she can't have them ever still devastates her. Does this mean she was entertaining the possibility that she might have them in the future if she were willing to settle for the right guy? Or did she feel robbed of the option to make that choice?
• Harsher in Hindsight:
  • If you don't ignore the series finale's ending like many fans choose to, Ted is telling a story of how Robin could never have children to a pair of children who lost their mother. Especially since this episode fools the viewer into thinking that Robin did have children in the end, only to reveal that they're not real.
  • Cobie Smulders herself would later reveal that she had been diagnosed with ovarian cancer back when shooting Season 3 and that briefly left her unable to have children. But heartwarmingly, after two years of operations, she welcomed two daughters.
