YMMV / Hotel del Luna

Go To

  • Anvilicious: The storyline with the female ghost who was a victim of rape is rather heavy-handed, though it's still potent and relevant to South Korea.
  • Nightmare Fuel: It's billed as a fantasy romance, even on The Other Wiki. Though not an inaccurate description, this also terribly undersells the genuine Nightmare Fuel aspects of the show. As early as Episode 3, the audience is treated to a scene of a young girl's ghost bleeding profusely all over the student who bullied her, complete with very vivid depictions of her blood. Probably not a show that one should get into, if they're just there for romance and are afraid of horror.
  • Portmanteau Couple Name: ManChan, a portmanteau of Official Couple Man-wol and Chan-sung. This name is used even by shippers of their actors!
  • She Really Can Act: A major example for IU. She was previously known as an Idol Singer whose acting in fluffier romance programs was widely derided by some as "cringe-worthy"; Hotel del Luna was the perfect vehicle to show that she is in fact a skilled actress. Her performance as Man-wol earned great praise.
  • Ship-to-Ship Combat: Man-wol x Chan-sung shippers vs. those who lament and prefer the tragic love between Man-wol and her Romantic Runner-Up/First Love Chung-myung.
  • Signature Scene: The scene in episode 1 in which Man-wol walks into an award ceremony and fires a rifle at the corrupt mayor overseeing it is probably the most iconic one in the entire series.
