YMMV / Hostage (1983)

  • Awesome Music: Davood Tabrizi's electronic score, particularly the main theme, is much better than the film deserves, and it's a real shame it's never seen an official release. Said main theme was good enough that it was later re-used as the music in the Hellas Kosmos Video Vanity Plate.
  • Retroactive Recognition: Christine's mother is played by Judy Nunn, who would later become better known as Ailsa Stewart on Home and Away.
  • Uncertain Audience: It's a bit unclear what audience the creators were aiming for. On the one hand, the Lifetime Movie of the Week-style premise is most likely to appeal to a female audience. On the other hand, the film includes Exploitation Film elements such as gratuitous sex scenes and nudity, which can come across as Fan Disservice for many viewers given the traumatic context. The fact that it's based on a real person's memoir doesn't help either.
  • The Woobie: Christine. She was just a teenage girl looking for love who got forced into a life of crime by an abusive and unstable man.
