YMMV / Hope: The Other Side Of Adventure

  • Alternate Character Interpretation:
    • How morally upstanding the Knight is has been debated. Is he a positive Knight in Shining Armor, or a chauvinist who is in on the Duke's plans and doesn't actually care about the Princess? Or, is he neutral and uncaring in the Princess' plight and only care about being her hero?
    • We never sees what the Prince looks like under the armor. So, some people theorize the Prince doesn't actually exist but is a fantasy of the princess. Alternatively, the Prince might actually be a suit of Animated Armor.
    • What does the Art Shift back into the cheerful pixel style in the good ending mean? Does it symbolize how the Knight doesn't understand the Princess' trauma or what she went through, simply thinking of their story as a fairy tale where all's well that ends well? Does it symbolize the Princess descending into madness, especially if you subscribe to the theory that the good ending isn't real? Or, for a happier interpretation, does it show that in this ending, the Princess' spirit wasn't broken entirely, and she will eventually heal from her trauma and live Happily Ever After with the Knight?
  • Germans Love David Hasselhoff: At the time of release, the game saw the most popularity in Italy, even being featured on the front page of the Italian version of IGN for a while.
  • Memetic Mutation: The game's reputation of "The Scary Lost Princess App" stemmed from how the game, while only appearing briefly on the App Store, was able to haunt the memories of hundreds of young children who had no knowledge of the game's content before downloading.
  • Nightmare Fuel: The bad ending, which sees the Princess commit suicide so that she won't have to marry the Duke. While the act isn't shown, you're still subject to the harrowing sight of her lifeless body hanging from the ceiling.
  • Tear Jerker: The tone of the game is oppressively bleak. The Princess's segments take place in a small, circular tower with hauntingly sad music playing as she monologues about her suffering in between complete breakdowns.
  • Too Bleak, Stopped Caring: Considering that the "game" is mostly listening to the Princess' depressing monologues, there is a serious chance of this happening.
  • The Woobie: The Princess. She goes mad during her imprisonment, is physically abused by the duke, and it's implied that she will be sexually abused as well. In the bad ending, she is Driven to Suicide.
