YMMV / Honor and Glory

Go To

  • Padding: The solo martial arts scenes, particularly the ones with Joyce and Slade, are gratuitous. The characters demonstrate in the movie itself that they practice, so the sequences are pointless padding.
  • Retroactive Recognition: Dragon Lee is played by Robin Shou a.k.a Liu Kang.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Jake can come across this way due to the fact that he storms out when Jason Slade is about to murder Silk, but despite being an experienced martial artist, Jake in no way tries to stop the murder. Even though Silk was a piece of crap human being, if he truly opposed the murder, then he would have at least tried to stop it or called the cops. He does neither and is seen instead sulking for his next scene when he goes back to his old gym to train and talk to one of his mentor figures about his conflicting feelings. It also doesn't help that he breaks into Joyce's house twice while trying to confront her and convince her that Slade isn't as bad as she claims.
  • Wangst: Most of Joyce's whining about her father being distant comes across as this. It's extremely uninteresting and melodramatic, especially given that we have to assume she's in her 30's and should have coped with the resentment by now. Instead, she has childish outbursts like a moody teenager in nearly every scene having to do with him.
