- Critical Dissonance: The film was very well-received by professional film critics, but was met with a more mixed reception among audiences.
- Nightmare Fuel: Boyse's murder-suicide by going into the black hole and getting crushed through spaghettification.
- Dibs's blatant violations of the rest of the crew's bodily autonomy are this.
- Too Bleak, Stopped Caring: Each character has very questionable motive and the whole purpose of this space mission has no end goal for everything other than having death-row inmates stuck in space. What makes it even worse is that the ship's doctor rapes the main character and transfers his semen into a female passenger without either of their consent.
- Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Boyse can feel this way for killing the fairly innocent Nansen just to further her own suicide.
