YMMV / Helluva Boss S1E3 "Spring Broken"

Go To

  • Alternative Character Interpretation:
    • Was Blitzo seriously interested in Verosika? Or were his reasons for dating her more mercenary? After all, he slept with Stolas to steal a grimoire that would let him access the mortal realm, and Verosika is apparently able to travel there from Hell whenever she wants...
    • Succubus nature aside, just how mean is Verosika? Was she always uppity and unsavory, or is she usually more calm and polite, and encountering her ex caused her to fly off the handle?
    • In season 2, it's revealed that Barbie Wire does not get along with Blitzø, and would rather just disappear off his radar completely. Verosika's "Your sister says hi," line may have been less "haha your sister is a loser in rehab" and more "haha your sister wants to talk to your ex more than she wants to talk to you."
    • Did Josh not recognize Loona? Or was he trying to handicap I.M.P by keeping one of its members occupied? Or was he genuinely interested in her?
    • Does Verosika secretly still care about her ex’s well-being to an extent? Note her brief expression when Blitzø face plants out of his van. Is it a look of worry, or just scoffing at clumsiness?
    • Did Vortex not pick up on Loona's attraction to him? Or was he aware, and mentioned his girlfriend as a subtle way to let her down gently?
      • When Loona meets Vortex on the beach, she acts flustered while introducing herself. He, in turn, introduces himself with a ridiculously goofy voice—was he being silly to put Loona at ease around him, or subtly making fun of her awkwardness?
    • What was Loona's reason to join Blitzo and co this time? Was it because, deep down, she wanted to help her dad win the bet? Because she wanted to meet Vortex there? Or because she just wanted to have fun at the spring break festival? Or was it because she was a Verosika fan?
  • Alternative Joke Interpretation: Blitzo calls Verosika and her crew "STD spreaders". One of his usual colorful insults? Or is he being completely literal about what succubi do for a living, making it not so much a joke as world-building?
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Josh, the incubus who tried to get it on with Loona, seems to have gained a small following.
  • Epileptic Trees: Some viewers found it a bit too coincidental that Verosika's new recording studio just happened to be in the same building where her ex-boyfriend ran his business. Therefore, they suggested that she deliberately arranged things that way, whether to try and get back at Blitzo (by, at a bare minimum, rubbing her success in his face) or to see if he was willing to give their relationship another shot.
  • Fanfic Fuel:
    • Blitzo and Verosika's former relationship is a fan fiction goldmine.
    • It's now known that denizens of Hell are expected to wear human disguises when visiting Earth.
    • Tex and Loona have good chemistry, and there's potential for stories featuring their relationship, platonic or otherwise.
    • What if Millie were the one to get drunk instead of Moxxie? How would Moxxie deal with the situation?
    • What other raunchy shenanigans have Verosika's band of succubus demons gotten into?
    • If Millie ever found out what happened to Moxxie, what exactly would she do?
    • What would Josh do if he found out that Loona was a hellhound?
    • What exactly would happen if Loona directly interacted with her idol? How would Verosika treat the news that the adopted kid of her hated ex is also a fan of her music along with being attracted to her bodyguard Vortex?
  • Fan-Preferred Couple: Shortly after his introduction, a decent portion of fans quickly latched onto shipping Vortex with Loona, as he's a fellow hellhound who also has an attractive design and gets along quite well with her despite their employers having beef with each other. Said fans care not one bit about him already having a girlfriend, mainly because it's only revealed near the end of the episode and she hadn't appeared on-screen yet.
  • Love to Hate: Verosika Mayday and her posse are crass, uppity bullies who step on Blitzo and I.M.P, but they're fun, sexy, and charismatic. Verosika's aphrodisiacal music number is especially alluring.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic:
    • Loona might have felt that Blitzo was invading in her privacy, but she was supposed to be working. That was the reason they had gone up there in the first place. And while the parking space seems like a silly thing to obsess over, it was their only space in the lot, which was the only way they could get into work.
    • Verosika is supposed to garner given sympathy how Blitzo ended their relationship note , but given her biggest gripe is him stealing her car for a night and maxxing out her cards, that comes off as hollow, especially compared to what she does this very episode; stealing their only parking space which they need, then stealing their office, outright raping Moxxie when he politely tries to reason with them and engaging in a duel where she tries to seduce as many humans as possible, likely infecting them with numerous sexually transmitted diseases. Thus Blitzo flipping her off at the end feels childish but also hella cathartic.
