• They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: The show establishes itself in its first episode as centering around two London cops faced with the moral dilemma of knowing the world will end in five years. However, it plays out as something more akin to a standard procedural crime drama in the following episodes, with the main characters investigating a series of grisly murders only vaguely motivated by the coming apocalypse, while simultaneously struggling with their own dark secrets. The end-of-the-world remains secondary to Hicks and Renko's personal drama until literally the last scene of the Season One finale, when the "Hard Sun" – a black hole set to swallow the sun – shows up five years earlier than expected, thereby lessening the chances that the show might explore the logistics and moral complexity of maintaining law and order in the face of certain doom in its second season..
