• Award Snub: The Tony Nominating Committee determined that because the show was originally performed Off-Broadway in 2006, it is eligible for Best Revival of a Musical despite never having played Broadway before. This makes it ineligible for Best Book and Best Score.
• Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: Lampshaded with the song "Biscuits." Bud and Doug acknowledge that it doesn't have anything to do with Gutenberg and is there to act as a "charm song," providing a break for the audience (and a possible Celebrity Cameo for a famous person who doesn't want a big part).
