YMMV / Goon

Film Goon

  • Ensemble Darkhorse: Belchior (the goalie), caused by him having some of the funniest lines in the movie:
    • What's so fucking funny, giggly bits?
    • Two rules, man: Stay away from my fuckin' percocets and do you have any fucking percocets, man?
    • You Slavic fucking borscht-blooded, cabbage-headed motherfuckers, man! Why don't you stop the puck in your big vagina, you Russian lesbian? (yelling at his Russian teammates before the team gells due to Doug's influence; they later continue to spar but the context changes)
    • Okay, Siegfried. Let's go, Roy! Eye of the fucking tiger! (talking to his own goal posts)
  • Magnificent Bastard: Ross Rhea did not become the legendary enforcer he is solely by way of his fists. He has an amazing ability to play mind games with his opponents. He hits true MB status when he backs out of fighting Doug to force him into taking an instigator penalty.
  • Playing Against Type: When you see Eugene Levy cast as Doug's dad, you expect at least a couple of comedic scenes. Instead he's mainly there to deliver a somber Disappointed in You speech that arguably serves as the film's most depressing moment.
  • The Scrappy: Pat, he is annoying as hell and nobody likes him. Just try and tell any of the fans you like him.

TV series Go On
  • Fridge Brilliance
    • Fausta partially represents Denial which is why she often pretends to not understand English or Comically Misses The Point about Anne being a lesbian.
    • Owen's brother is named C. Lewis. The group shows up for Halloween as the characters of Alice In Wonderland.
    • The group as a whole tends to be expies of each other. For Ryan, Owen is his quiet inner side (the side that talks to Janie in his head). K is his quirkiness. Fausta is his narcissist. Anne is his devoted husband aspect. Yolanda is the shy doormat side of him. Sonia is his need for social company. And so on.
  • Jerkass Woobie: Ryan. He may act like a jerk sometimes, but he's hiding a lot of pain inside.
  • Les Yay: When Sonia demonstrates to Wyatt how to propose to Lauren, she uses Yolanda as a faux-Lauren. Sonia's so convincing that Yolanda is left breathless and expecting a ring.
    • Yolanda also might be in love with Lauren. She has technically taken her out on a date.
      • To be fair, it's been established that almost everyone has fallen for Lauren at some point.
  • One-Scene Wonder: Terrell Owens, in basically every episode he's in.
  • Too Good to Last: Relatively well-liked comedy with fine acting from the ensemble, yet cancelled after one year on NBC due to struggling ratings.
  • The Woobie: The whole support group is this.
