"Not have not"?

** During a party, Drew gropes a girl. The whole thing is PlayedForLaughs (he tricks her into letting him touch her breasts) with Drew as a harmless LoveableSexManiac. Modern audiences are more likely to view it as sexual assault and it probably would not have not been included in a teen romantic comedy nowadays (or if it was, it would be performed by a much less sympathetic character.)

* HilariousInHindsight: The presence of Creator/HelenHunt in a movie inspired by Music/CyndiLauper's BreakthroughHit - Lauper would play a DropInCharacter on ''Series/MadAboutYou'' both she and Hunt won Emmys for the their work on said series.

* TechnologyMarchesOn: One issue in the film is Janey hiding Jeff's phone call from her father; it being TheEighties, they only have one landline phone in the house. Jeff also has the issue, on his own end, of his little sister swiping ''their'' only phone before he's done with it. Nowadays, of course, they would probably text each other, which would require a whole different manner of hiding the communication.

** In a completely different way, the dance contest falls under this. Janey is fifteen years old, and there's no way that a modern dance competition would allow her to enter without a signed parental permission form; quite likely she would also be required to have one parent or guardian with her for the actual show. (Granted, that actually ended up happening, but her father was initially there to ''prevent'' her from participating, not to support her.)

protagonist centered morality is not ymmv and this involves a double standard between the morality involving a main character and the morality involving secondary characters. The only bit of the example that remotely implies that the lead is treated remotely different of the other characters is the thing with the Alpha Bitch.

* ProtagonistCenteredMorality: We're supposed to root for Janey because her passion is dancing and she's wanted to be on Dance TV her entire life, and now she has a chance to do so but her father won't let her compete. His reasons are a little sketchy, but they mostly boil down to her being fifteen years old, which isn't entirely unreasonable. With her best friend, she sabotages the celebratory ball thrown in honor of her rival (who admittedly is a RichBitch); she sneaks out of school in order to practice for the contest, and lies to her parents constantly about who she's seeing and where she's going. Additionally, her friends forge her signature on the release form when she's late to the competition due to traffic, thereby technically making it void if this were to be discovered, and given that Janey's a minor, it's also kind of illegal for her to be on the show without her parents' consent. It's easy to ignore all of this because Janey and Jeff are generally nice, likable people who just want to pursue their dream, but that doesn't make any of these points less true.
