• Catharsis Factor: For once Leela just gets to straight-up kick the crap out of Zapp when he tries to stop her from rescuing Bender... and it's so satisfying!
• Designated Villain: Parodied with the Ball aliens that Earth went to war with. As it turns out, it was the Earthican forces that were the invaders, the Ball people were just harmless aliens that only wanted to bounce. When Fry realizes this, he's understandably confused.
• Genius Bonus: Nixon (his head, anyway) giving a Patton-esque speech is even better when you realize that Patton was one of his favorites.
• Hilarious in Hindsight: In the Italian dub of Starship Troopers Rico was dubbed by Fry's Italian dubber Fabrizio Manfredi, while Zapp was dubbed by Alessandro Rossi, who dubbed Rico's drill instructor Sergeant Zim.
• Ho Yay: Deliberately, when Zapp finds himself unaccountably attracted to Private "Lee Lemon". Subverted in that he's just attracted to Leela in disguise.
