  • Alternate Character Interpretation:
    • Yupi. Is he simply a toy-like mechanical puppy who only does the things he does because he's programmed to do so, or does he actually have a mind of his own outside of his programming?
    • Max. Is he really dumb, or does he just act that way to hide a more aggressive personality?
  • Awesome Music:
    • Pretty much every track in the show, especially the piano covers of the show's opening and ending themes. The music can all range from silly and bouncy to downright emotional and heartwarming.
    • The song that plays in episode 30, when Freddy finally reunites with Ai. The song most definitely adds to the emotional weight the scene is portraying.
  • Growing the Beard: The first few episodes of the anime started out as very light-hearted slice-of-life adventures with occasional sad moments, but starting with Episode 6, the situations the dogs find themselves in start carrying more emotional weight.
  • The Scrappy: Max. Oh dear Lord, Max. While his debut episode makes him act noticeably more competent, the episodes that follow with him tagging along just portray him as a bumbling idiot dog who only cares about food, and often causes a lot of the problems the gang faces.
  • Ugly Cute: Freddy is. This is even acknowledged in-universe, most notably by humans, including Ai upon first meeting Freddy.
  • The Woobie:
    • Freddy. Full stop. He is literally a puppy and the youngest dog in the entire show, yet he's often ridiculed for his appereance, and even sometimes mistreated by bigger dogs. He then gets separated from Ai, and spends the entire first half of the show trying to find his way back to her, with little sense of direction or smell. To make matters even worse, he eventually manages to reunite with Ai, only for the Fortune Tree to begin dying and forcing Ai to abandon him.
    • Pochi, the little dog the gang meets in episode 16. He is ignored by every human simply because he doesn't belong to any particular breed.
