• Angst? What Angst?: Played for Laughs with Haruko in Fooly Falls 2 and Rick and Haruko, where she is utterly elated that her home planet has been destroyed because of how much she hated living under Medical Mechanica's tyranny. However, it's implied she still misses home somewhat and fears being alone.
• Hilarious in Hindsight: The discovery in Fooly Falls 2 that Haruko is connected to the Rick and Morty multiverse becomes this after FLCL Shoegaze revealed that the ending of FLCL Alternative would lead to the creation of an Alternate Universe.
  • Stan is abruptly killed off much like what happened to Harumi, only in this case, Stan doesn't come back to life.
  • A joke in Fooly Falls 2 compares President Maki Kitaki to Donald Trump. A year after the story finished, Alex Hirsch joked on his Twitter that Old Man McGucket became the 45th president instead of Trump in Gravity Falls, though Trump attempting to become President afterwards isn't out of the question.
• Jerkass Woobie: Haruko is depicted as such, especially in Ride on Shooting Star and Rick and Haruko, which give a bit more context to her sociopathic actions. It turns out she Hates Being Alone due to growing up on a Dystopia ruled by Medical Mechanica, her mother is dead, her father is a drunken abuser, and she had very little friends until she was rescued by Rick Sanchez and pals, who gave Haruko a sense of belonging. But she would soon throw that away in favor of pursuing Atomsk, betraying Rick in the process and eventually menacing the Pines family in the present day. It's only Fooly Falls 2 where Haruko finally comes to terms with how her actions affect others through the death of Grunkle Stan, whom she was Platonic Life-Partners with in Fooly Falls, and then accepting Julia Jinyu and the Pines as her new family.
