• Aluminum Christmas Trees: The German bedtime story might seem like a play on the stereotype that Germans are aggressive, or perhaps poking fun at the fact that the original versions of various fairy tales were often way more gruesome. However, The Story of Little Suck-a-Thumb is pretty much exactly like it's portrayed in the episode, the only difference being that the person who cut off the boy's thumbs was a tailor his mother warned him about, rather than the mother doing it herself. The designs of the characters were even based on the story's illustrations from the book that it originally appeared in.
