YMMV / Family Guy S 14 E 9 A Shot In The Dark

Go To

  • Accidental Aesop:
    • Never go through a window at night, always use the front door. Going through the window could lead to you being mistaken for a burglar (which in turn could lead to worse problems). Also, opening the front door does not let out too much air conditioning.
    • If you are listening to music in public, just take the earpieces out instead of turning the volume down and/or shouting over it. Not only is it very rude when someone is trying to talk to you, but it can also escalate a problem if someone is trying to talk to you. Just take the earpieces out, you can always rewind the song or play it again after the conversation. You could also just shout that you've got headphones in and if it doesn't startle the gunman, they'll at least know why you haven't surrendered.
  • Catharsis Factor: The scene where Lois beats the hell out of Peter for his stupid idea of donning blackface is oddly satisfying to watch given Peter’s ever-increasing stupidity and frequent escape from consequences. Many clips of the scene online have commentators saying this was a long time coming.
  • Unintentionally Sympathetic: While Lois was supposed to be in the wrong for repeatedly smacking Peter around, most viewers cheered and sided with her because Peter was flanderized into a psychopath who constantly gets away with his crap. Many commentators said that it was a long time coming.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: While Peter is unfairly accused of being a racist, most viewers cheered when Lois smacked Peter around for trying to paint himself black, seeing it as more than he deserved for years of idiotic stunts.
  • The Woobie:
    • Peter, while he shouldn't have been given a gun or lead a neighborhood watch, he was made out to be a racist after he shot what he thought was a burglar, but was Cleveland's son. While he doesn't help his case he tries to make things up to Cleveland and when he takes Carter's help he thinks it's because Carter wants to help him later when Peter is free and everything is over Cleveland Jr. says that he's going to get Peter back.
    • Cleveland Jr. as well (this episode was based on a teenage boy who was shot for wearing the hood on his jacket up). While Cleveland Jr. doesn't die, he's naturally scared from being shot at and his parents seem more interested in painting Peter a racist than helping their son. He's made to look like a villain in court. When it comes out his father made him enter his house through the window, Cleveland isn't shown to be at fault despite putting his son in the situation in the first place (one that might have killed him).
