* NoSuchThingAsBadPublicity: The criticism from LGBT websites is one of the main reasons people know about it. Many of the [=LGBTs=] who watched the show to see what the fuss was about ended up falling in love with the show and Amy in particular.

Trivia not YMMV

* TheCastShowoff:
** Karma (played by ''Series/AmericanIdol'' alum Katie Stevens) picks up a guitar and sings in the third episode.
** Bailey Buntain shows off her dancing skills (as previously seen in ''Series/{{Bunheads}}'') with Michael Willett in "Three to Tango".
** A Season 2 episode has all three of them singing, plus Lauren and Shane dancing.

Requires commercial failure or other objective proof audiences were alienated.

* AudienceAlienatingPremise: Two straight girls pretending to be gay for popularity? Never mind that the pilot was written by a gay guy, one of the leads is gay, and one of the guest stars was a major player in [[Series/MySoCalledLife one of the seminal coming-out stories in television history]]...that fact alone has brought heavy criticism from some parts of the LGBT community (though it has garnered support from GLAAD and the Trevor Project).

* SeasonalRot: For many fans, season 2 was considered a lot weaker than the first even if it was less controversial to an outside audience, with {{flanderization}} of much of the main cast (namely Shane), far too many dead-end and often melodramtic subplots, an increasing {{Strawman}} and SatelliteLoveInterest syndrome to the new characters and what felt like drawn-out baiting of the Karma/Amy ship even after supposed ShipSinking. The "mid-season break" that lasted a whole year ''really'' didn't help.

* FunnyAneurysmMoment: Meanwhile, Lauren's secret ([[spoiler:that she's intersexed]]) makes the tampon up her boyfriend Tommy's nose to stop the bleeding from a fight in "Three to Tango" a bit more complicated...[[spoiler:For starters, did he get it from Lauren?]]

* FanPreferredCouple: The show's first season seems to be trying to sell Karma/Liam as much as Karma/Amy, with Karma/Liam even becoming the OfficialCouple, if only for a short amount of time. Pretty much no one is rooting for the first ship. Every single fanfic is [[PortmanteauCoupleName Karmy]] (Karma/Amy), and Katie Stevens and Rita Volk seem to ship it themselves. Karma/Amy being a fictional couple InUniverse definitely helps. At the end of the show, Amy enters a relationship with Sabrina and Karma is given a MaybeEverAfter with Felix. However, despite this fact, Karma/Amy remains the most popular ship in the fandom.
