• Alternate Character Interpretation: How altruistic is Pauline's desire to "help" Grace, and how much was it really about revenge or mental disturbance? On the one hand, Grace was going to die regardless of Pauline's intervention, there is at least a tiny, wildly improbable chance she might have saved her, and Grace is one of the few characters Pauline seems to genuinely care for. On the other hand, Pauline is deeply mentally disturbed, clearly hurt by her parents' rejection, and has a history of lashing out at her tormentors in deliberately shocking ways. And then there's the Freudian stuff.
