• Spiritual Adaptation: The plot of Europa Report is strongly reminiscent of a subplot of the 2010: The Year We Make Contact novel that wasn't included in the film. In the 2010 novel, China is able to launch its own spaceship, the Tsien, to Jupiter that beats the joint American-Russian mission, but is destroyed by the mysterious lifeforms on Europa while refueling for the return trip. (The 2010 film just has the Leonov send a remotely operated probe to Europa that is also destroyed.)
