YMMV / Dua Lipa

  • Even Better Sequel: While Dua Lipa was a strong debut (with a 72/100 on Metacritic), Future Nostalgia has been even more favorably reviewed (scoring an 89/100), with several critics praising the album’s cohesiveness and Dua's willingness to play with her creative image and take constructive criticism to heart.
  • Everyone Is Jesus in Purgatory: Some fans will try and see symbolism in her songs when she's never outright confirmed that she has or hasn't put any in. "Levitating" is one song that's seen as having a supposed symbolic meaning.
  • Germans Love David Hasselhoff: While definitely not overshadowing her popularity in the States, she's surprisingly popular in Japan, at least popular enough to get dedicated Japanese translations of some of her music videos, which is uncommon. But what really cemented her popularity there was getting an Animated Music Video made by a Japanese studio for Levitating that was modeled and designed after eighties and nineties anime, especially paying homage to the Magical Girl and Idol Singer genres that were prevalent at the time mixed with science fiction elements. The Retraux style that combines eighties and nineties shoujou anime In Space fits well for a song on an album titled Future Nostalgia, with Levitating itself also paying homage to the pop stars from that era that were popular in both the West and Japan.
  • Memetic Mutation:
    • I love her lack of energy, go girl give us nothing!note
    • Dula Peepnote
  • Signature Song: Many, but "New Rules" takes the cake for her self-titled first album; "Levitating" and "Don't Start Now" for Future Nostalgia, as they are also her most streamed songs, of course.
  • What Do You Mean, It's Not Didactic?: "New Rules" and "Levitating" were seen as didactic by some fans, as was "Physical".
