• Angst? What Angst?: The stuff Petra goes through should have her perpetually in a Troubled Fetal Position, crying Tears of Fear. True, she does get plenty of cool-down hugs from her friends and dorm-mates, especially Ella who grew up in a Deadly Decadent Court, where her own siblings, "friends" and relatives would frequently try to poison her, but while she's still traumatized, she's not nearly as broken as she should be.
• Ensemble Dark Horse: The monster under Petra's bed is immensely popular on its first appearance, to the author's surprise, with the reader comments petitioning to make it a recurring character, despite having no name to date. The fact that Petra got tea, cookies, and head-pats while it was a gracious host, happily listening to her life's story without complaint, are certainly contributing factors for the resident Chew Toy getting a non-humanoid new friend.
