- Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: There are two vignettes of an elephant in the jungle that seem completely removed from the narrative. Even with the assumption that this is Dheepan dreaming about his time at Sri Lanka, we never saw an elephant in the opening Sri Lanka scenes, and it's unclear if the elephant symbolizes anything about Dheepan's story, so it's mostly just confusing.
