YMMV / Devs

Go To

  • Awesome Music: The soundtrack is pretty amazing, with works like the Hilliard Ensemble's rendition of "Regnantem Sempiterna" lending scenes at Devs an ethereal, mysterious and holy quality. Low's "Congregation" gives episode 2 a melancholy tone while still providing energy to the plot's progression and the mystery's unfolding.
  • Esoteric Happy Ending: Even if we discount the universes where Lily and Forest arrive that are less than favorable and focus only on the universe that is "one of the good ones," it's easy to see how this happy ending is tenuous at best. What if the machine gets shut off, or the government starts messing with it? Will Lily really be able to accept the simulation as her new reality and live there comfortably without ever coming to view it all as a fraud or Gilded Cage?
  • Fandom Rivalry: With Westworld. Both discuss on technology and data and its relationship between free will vs. determinism.
  • Visual Effects of Awesome: Literally fucking everything about the Devs compound, from the digital motion effects of its electromagnetic elevator to the practical mirror effects in framing characters both inside through screen doors and outside through reflective poles. The framing in particular reinforces the quantum themes of the series by showing the position of characters skewed by multiple glass panes.
