YMMV / Death Comes as the End

Go To

  • Complete Monster: The killer in this historical Murder Mystery is Yahmose, the quiet, self-contained eldest son of ka-priest Imhotep. After killing Imhotep's new concubine, Nefret, in a rage, Yahmose discovers that he enjoys the power that committing murder gives to him, and he proceeds to murder, in rabid succession, his wife Satipy; his brothers Sobek and Ipy; a slave boy who acted as his accomplice; his grandmother Esa; and the cleaning woman Henet; and tries to kill his sister Renisenb, before being stopped. Maddened by bloodlust, Yahmose was a threat to anyone he thought more worthy than himself, and anybody under his power.
  • Jerkass Woobie: Heavy on the Jerkass and very light on the Woobie: Henet's husband divorced her and her only child died in infancy, and she lived as a servant to a distant relative (Renisenb's mother).
  • Moral Event Horizon: The killer crosses this with the death of the slave boy. Yahmose commanded the obedient boy to commit suicide after having co-erced him into complicity with the murders. Notably, he is the first non-Asshole Victim casualty.
  • Nightmare Fuel: The live mummification of Henet toward the end of the story.
  • The Woobie: Hori. Imagine seeing an old and dear friend grow increasingly worse in a matter of months, and ultimately having to shoot said friend to protect what is left of the household.
