YMMV / Death and Other Details

  • Narrowed It Down to the Guy I Recognize: While the creators of the show did their best to hide it, several viewers noticed that Linda Emond was playing both Imogene's mother and Agent Eriksen. This tipped them off that something strange was going on and made Eriksen the prime suspect as a result. Incidentally, Emond had also played a would-be murderer on Only Murders in the Building the previous year, which this show was inevitably compared to as it is another murder mystery streaming on Hulu.
  • So Okay, It's Average: The consensus among critics is that the show is well-made but does not have much to distinguish it from other shows in a similar vein, such as Only Murders in the Building.
  • Too Bleak, Stopped Caring: None of the characters are particularly likable, including the ones we are supposed to root for. Cotesworth is a fraud and Imogene, while understandably traumatized by her mom's murder, rubs pretty much everyone the wrong way (unless she decides to sleep with them).
  • Uncertain Audience: The show is a throwback to Agatha Christie-style whodunnits but also includes a significant amount of sex and swearing, which can be jarring for those who are into more traditional mysteries.
