YMMV / Concussion

  • Hilarious in Hindsight: A scene has one of the characters point out that Omalu is going up against the NFL, who basically made God's holy day their day, creating a very clear comparison in how powerful the NFL is. The comparison is funny considering how, in that same year, a movie where some people uncover a conspiracy with the Church was released. Even more hilarious is that said film ended up winning the Academy Award for Best Picture.
  • Harsher in Hindsight:
    • Could have been Harsher In Hindsight: The Movie! All of the clips of Football carry this sentiment as it focuses less on the exhilaration and more on the injuries and long-term implications. The entire sport and culture of Football carries this vibe, as the players who adored the game unwittingly subjected themselves to potentially losing their minds.
    • Real-life research into CTE has only made the implications and the NFL's vociferous denials even more painful. Worth noting, is that more research has shown that college and even high school football players are at risk of developing CTE. You may not even have to have played long to be at risk.
  • Memetic Mutation: Tell the TROOF!
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: There is a scene where Omalu and Bailes talk about what a hack another physician is, and one of the things they make fun of him for is the fact that he went to medical school in *gasp* Guadalajara. If you happen to know any physicians who trained in Latin America, (or happen to be one yourself) you probably found that particular moment pretty unintentionally elitist.
