YMMV / Cold Case S 3 E 20 Death Penalty Final Appeal

  • Confirmation Bias: The detectives allow an innocent man to be executed because they are too locked in to one interpretation of the evidence. Will's interrogation technique here consists of telling the suspect variations of "now it's time for you to tell the truth" even after it's clear he's not going to change his story, where normally a failure to confess when pressed would cause the detectives to look at the case from a different angle. The detectives spend a segment trying to determine whether the suspect had the opportunity to copy the keys to the victim's house (so he could get in to rape and murder her later). Had they just bothered to investigate the person who gave him those keys, who had the same access to the house, they would have solved the case right away. They do this only after it is too late.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: In the episode, Michael Jace plays Andre, who was wrongly executed for a crime he did not commit. Michael Jace himself was arrested in 2014 for fatally shooting his wife, and in 2016 was sentenced to 40 years in prison for second-degree murder.
