• Designated Hero: Dan is intended to be the strong, salt-of-the-Earth pillar of the community, but the way he openly and stubbornly opposes inclusivity and openness make him look like a bigot instead. The Cinema Snob outright called him a "white Christmas supremacist" in his review of the film.
• Informed Wrongness: All the people who make the reasonable points of opening up the public space for a more diverse holiday display are quickly shot down by Dan, who simply says that "it doesn't work with him".
• The Scrappy: Greg (played by conservative comedian Brad Stine) is supposed to be Dan's quirky, inseparable sidekick and a Cool Uncle to his children. But his constant quips get annoying really fast, his various rants about "political correctness" in regards to Christmas making him seem less like a man protesting a corrupt system and more like an Entitled Bastard making a big deal over nothing.
• Strawman Has a Point: Mitch's points about the town being in breach of the Establishment Clause due to the use of religious displays using taxpayer money on public property do have legal validity, but since he's an embittered atheist his points are treated as invalid.
