YMMV / Cable (2020)

Go To

  • Awesome Art: Phil Noto captures the 80s action movie aesthetic perfectly for a young Cable. Proof positive of his skills, all five of the Cuckoos are identical but feature their own expressions and unique body language that marks them as individuals.
  • Epileptic Trees: There are some fans that think, due to a panel in X of Swords where Cable cuts his finger (on the hand that should be made of metal), that Kid Cable isn't Cable at all, but rather Stryfe.
  • My Real Daddy: Outside of this book, Kid Cable has historically been characterized as very serious and pragmatic, with the only major exception being the main X-Men book, where he's usually written as "idiot teenage son". Neither version has been particularly well received. However, this series readers have responded warmly to Gerry Duggan balancing out both Kid Cable's fun-loving side while simultaneously remaining very competent, creating a character more enjoyable than any of his prior iterations.
  • Rescued from the Scrappy Heap: Before this series, Kid Cable was a divisive character on a good day for killing his older self without really offering anything new to justify his presence. Reception warmed considerably with this series, with reviewers praising Duggan's willingness to lean into the "kid" side, giving way for a light-hearted and fun side of Cable we never really see with Cable Classic. The series ended up doing such a good job of getting people on board with Kid Cable that when it ended many people who couldn't have cared less about Kid Cable before it started were genuinely upset when he leaves and is replaced with regular Cable.
