YMMV / Britannica's Tales Around the World

  • Cult Classic: The diversity of animation styles in each segment, the mixing of adaptations of well-known, well-loved stories along with variations virtually unknown outside of their home cultures, and Pat Morita's whimesome hosting have made the series this.
  • Designated Hero: St. Olaf in "St. Olaf and the Troll" cons a troll into building a church for him and then kills him to get out of having to pay.
  • Heartwarming Moments: Pat Morita's closing comments on the "Beauty and the Beast" episode:
"This is Pat Morita, and I don't know about you, but I believe in true love. After all, it happened to me."
  • Jerkass Woobie: The Beast may be a sinister, harsh, creepy demon, but he is also utterly pitiful that you can't help but feel bad for him sometimes.
  • Retroactive Recognition: Some of the actors like Lucy Childs and Gail Freeman are later known for their works on Snatcher and VeggieTales.
  • Ugly Cute: The beast in "Beauty and the Beast" has a macabre appearance, yet his mannerisms and the faces he makes are so utterly pitiful that it almost makes him look like a sad dog at times.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: The prince from "Cinderella" is supposed to be Cinderella's true love, but he instead comes off as a sleaze who immediately lusts after a girl he's only known for a few hours and immediately decides he's going to marry her. Cinderella really has no reason to fall in love with the guy, and it doesn't help that he looks much older than her.
