- Fair for Its Day: While Bret's Mexican and Navajo friends Benny and Ace (particularly the former) are a bit stereotypical, they are both heroic, developed characters. Throughout the series, Mexican and Navajo culture are portrayed as distinct from white American society, but are portrayed with a decent amount of dignity, seriousness and accuracy.
