YMMV / Boruto: Naruto the Movie

Go To

Movie

  • Adorkable:
    • Naruto looks so happy and goofy lighting the candles to Himawari's birthday cake. The mood quickly falls when Naruto goes *poof*, proving he was a clone and putting Boruto in a "This Is Unforgivable!" state. Later he can't help but jump in joy when he hears his son made it through the second day of the Chunin Exams.
    • Boruto falls into this too when his father comes to congratulate him on a job well done after the second day of Chunin Exams finished. He's practically shaking with happiness on his bed.
  • Broken Base: An inevitability, given that it follows the continuity set up by Naruto Gaiden.
    • Was Boruto justified of his anger towards Naruto or was he a selfish brat who couldn't bare "sharing" his father with everyone else?
    • Is Boruto justified in acting as if Naruto's shadow clones are separate from Naruto himself? On the one hand, they are identical to their creator in nearly every respect, having his memories and personality. On the other hand, it's the same as the difference between being present in person and only speaking over a phone, and if Naruto doesn't concentrate, as when he's focused on his work to the exclusion of his family, they'll disappear.
    • Do we feel sorry for Naruto in his efforts to be everywhere in Konoha or should he have made an exception to actually show up for his daughter's birthday?
    • Are Momoshiki and Kinshiki truly that dangerous to worry even Kaguya or were they blown out of proportion?
    • Should more of the next generation been featured more or was Boruto and his team enough?
    • Should Boruto have learned the Chidori from Sasuke or was the Rasengan enough already?
  • Complete Monster: Momoshiki Ōtsutsuki is a member of the ancient Ōtsutsuki clan who arrives on the Naruto Earth and promptly drains Killer Bee of chakra, leaving him for dead. Intending to harvest all the chakra of Kaguya Ōtsutsuki, which would likely kill every living being with chakra on the planet, Momoshiki attempts to cultivate a new chakra tree to enhance his own power. While the chūnin exams are underway, Momoshiki and his partner Kinshiki Ōtsutsuki attack the Leaf Village, Momoshiki destroying everything in sight while laughing like a maniac as he targets civilians. Only Naruto's sacrifice saves Momoshiki from annihilating the entire village, and possibly more, with a huge attack. Capturing Naruto, Momoshiki attempts to drain him dry of chakra and shows no remorse in literally eating the loyal Kinshiki for more power, or trying to kill all of Naruto's rescuers, even his twelve-year-old son Boruto.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: This movie that focuses on Naruto and Hinata's son was released exactly 9 months after the release of the movie that showed them finally getting together (7th August 2015 and 6th December 2014 respectively).
  • I Knew It!: As early as Mitsuki's introduction, fans had begun to theorize he was related to Orochimaru somehow. The movie confirms it, though it doesn't specify which parent he is.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: Some fans believe the children apart from Boruto and his team should have been given more of an overall role in the story. Inverted with Chocho, however, who is featured in promotional material despite not having any actual dialogue.
  • Viewer Gender Confusion: Early promotional photos made Momoshiki's gender somewhat hard to discern, though he was soon confirmed as male.
