YMMV / Boris (Band)

Go To

  • Archive Panic: Their discography is enormous. They have dozens of studio albums alone, but when you factor in collaborations, live albums, EPs, and singles, combined with their tendency to release albums with different track listings based on region, and it gets pretty maddening trying to find all their stuff.
  • Awesome Music: Almost every album. Just to start, Flood, Absolutego, Feedbacker, Heavy Rocks, Pink, and Altar are all well worth checking out.
  • Epic Riff: Quite a lot. "Pink" and "Just Abandoned Myself" are pretty good examples.
  • Genius Bonus: "A Bao A Qu" is named after a creature in Jorge Luis Borges' Book of Imaginary Beings, supposedly a spirit in Hindu folklore that sleeps at the foot of a tower in a state of colorlessness and shapelessness, but follows any traveler who climbs up the tower in the hopes of achieving nirvana, gaining form as it does so. Or it could be a Mobile Suit Gundam reference.
  • Germans Love David Hasselhoff: They have a devoted cult following in the US, but haven't managed to achieve the same level of success in Japan, where less melodic, accessible metal isn't as popular.
  • Nightmare Fuel: The last 16 minutes of Absolutego consist solely of atonal guitar feedback. It sounds really creepy.
    • "Etna", "N.L.T", and "Blood Swamp", not surprising considering that they're collaborations with Sunn O))).
    • "Theme" from Mabuta no ura is just a short, shrill Drone of Dread right at the start of the album.
  • Paranoia Fuel: "Fried Eagle Mind" off of Altar.
  • Tear Jerker: They have quite a few.
    • "The Sinking Belle (Blue Sheep)", a Surprisingly Gentle Song produced in collaboration with Sunn O))) and Jesse Sykes. They also produced two other versions, "Black Sheep" and "White Sheep", which may be even sadder.
    • The second movement of Flood, which is just a very mellow, pretty post-rock song. The rest of Flood could also count.
    • "Angel" and "Heavy Rain" from Noise are both very melancholy songs.
