  • Harsher in Hindsight: A minor plot point in this episode is that the body used in place of Lynch's in the car accident was a drug addict who died of an overdose. It's specifically mentioned it was heroin laced with fentanyl, a word that was so foreign when the episode aired that the writers throw in a scene where Brennan makes Cam explain it aloud for the benefit of the audience. This was nearly a decade before this very issue would become the center of the opioid epidemic in the US, and fentanyl would become a household name. Brennan's assertion that "someone should tell the addicts" that their street drug is being laced with something that can cause immediate overdose is especially heartbreaking. She also has some very Values Resonance ideas about harm reduction through legalization, a concept that is also getting more traction in the 2020s.
