YMMV / Blood of Elves

  • Slow-Paced Beginning: The entire book is widely considered this for the saga as a whole. Little actually happens, and most of it consists of setting the stage for future events in the series, going into extensive detail on Ciri's training and education in particular.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: Kaer Morhen and its occupants, despite the buildup, interesting revelations and characters, and its importance to the series' protagonist, are quickly dropped after Ciri's basic training and education. Geralt's fellow Wolf School witchers, the men who know him best of all the characters in the series and grew up with him at Kaer Morhen, should have been quite important but ultimately don't factor much into the story or rest of the series as they might have. More insight into the witchers, their dynamics with one another, their own adventures on the Path, origins, Kaer Morhen's mysterious history, Geralt's upbringing and more witcher characters would have made for an interesting plot and world building to expand on through the series. Instead the only witcher treated with any real importance or perspective ends up being the titular one.
