  • Critical Dissonance: Like Chris Farley and David Spade's last movie, Tommy Boy, this movie was poorly received by critics (Gene Siskel proudly said this was one of only two movies he'd ever walked out on in 26 years of reviewing), but well received by audiences, with a Rotten Tomatoes score of 28% among critics but a more favorable 70% among audiences.
  • Fridge Horror: The ending scene is absolutely hilarious, however, you can't help but think if the passengers ever noticed Mike got stuck on the side of the plane. The thought of him falling from the plane's maximum altitude is unbearable.
    • It's not just that; the higher the altitude, the colder and thinner the air gets. Mike would be lucky if he didn't suffocate or wind up being frozen to the damn plane...
  • Harsher in Hindsight: The following line took on a different tone after the infamous "Mr. Hands" case in Enumclaw, another part of suburban and rural Washington:
Mike: (referring to Steve as a psycho from Buckley) Butchered 400 chickens and screwed a beagle. I'm taking him back to Nevada where he's wanted for banging horses!
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: The ending scene becomes this when you discover that a similar thing happens in Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, though played seriously.
  • It's the Same, Now It Sucks!: Many hate this film for essentially being a retread of Tommy Boy.
  • Spiritual Successor: Indeed to Tommy Boy to the point where it could be confused for an actual sequel.
