  • Awesome Music: The chilling soundtrack provided by Ryuichi Sakamoto heightens the atmosphere.
  • Anvilicious: Black Mirror would like to remind you to put your phone down and pay attention to the road when you're driving. Also, the episode indirectly tells you to at least take a break from social media, as it can get addictive sometimes.
  • Paranoia Fuel: The fact that the Smithereens higher-ups got more information on Chris' life more quickly and efficiently than the police or even the FBI will definitely drive home just how much we inadvertently give away to these massive tech corporations.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: For all the reason Chris has for his crusade, kidnapping someone and threatening to murder them is still a horrifying thing to do to another human being.
  • The Woobie:
    • Christopher, who lost his beloved in a tragic accident courtesy of a drunk driver that was equally his fault because he was looking at his phone while he was driving. As a result, he's filled with extreme guilt and self-loathing and feels he has nothing left to live for anymore.
    • Jaden, who is kidnapped by a suicidal man who mistakes him for a higher-up in the company he works for and goes through a traumatic and hellish experience, all for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. He also has some prior trauma from the suicide of his uncle on top of that.
    • Billy Bauer can also count. For the most part, he's a pretty nice guy for a person in his position as the CEO of a massive social media company, but he doesn't really have much power over his own company anymore, being more of a public face/figurehead, so there's really not much he can do to prevent other tragedies like what happened to Chris.
    • Hayley, a mother in Chris' grief support group who lost her daughter to suicide and is desperately searching for answers because she never saw any signs beforehand that her daughter was struggling and generally feels angry with herself for not being more attentive and even admits that she feels angry with her daughter for not coming to her for help.
