YMMV / Beast (2022)

  • Fridge Horror: Another reason why the rogue lion went on a killing spree could be because the poachers probably injured him in one of their excursions. While he didn't eat any of his (human) kills, it wouldn't be a stretch to assume that he would have started to by a certain point, so some of those kills might've been future surplus kills.
  • Fridge Sadness: Besides being short for her name, you could wonder if Meredith decided to go by "Mere", a French word for "Mother", because she had to fulfill a motherly role for her younger sister after their mom died.
  • Moment of Awesome:
    • Points for Norah, a young teenager, leaning out of a besieged car to jam a tranquilliser dart into the lion’s rump with her bare hands.
    • The rogue lion finally getting revenge on the poachers who killed its pride earlier in the movie.
    • The climax of the film has Nate fight the rogue lion practically bare-handed! He's losing for basically all of it, but he gets tons of points for effort, managing to actually get some good hits in, and most importantly surviving the experience.
    • And the two male lions that Martin raised from cubs intervening in the fight, saving Nate's life. Which was actually Nate's plan.
  • Nightmare Fuel: Nate has a nightmare in which the rogue kills his daughters in a very effective Jump Scare.
  • Realism-Induced Horror: While lions don't often attack humans, the idea of an animal following its instincts and attacking you when you've done nothing to them personally is still terrifying in of itself, as it has happened.
  • Special Effect Failure: The lion looks less believable in broad daylight than it does at nighttime. Probably explains why so many shots take place at night.
  • Tear Jerker:
    • The rogue lion losing its pride at the beginning, which makes it go off the rails in the first place.
    • The death of Nate's wife and him trying to reconnect with his daughters also counts.
    • Martin and Nate coming across the aftermath of a village destroyed and decimated by the rogue lion offscreen, leaving a lot of carnage and dead bodies in its wake, some of them even being friends of Martin's.
    • Martin's death in which he blows himself up in an attempt to kill the rogue and save Nate and the girls.
      • Martin apologizing to the lion before blowing up the overturned car shows that he had sympathy for the animal's plight, as it lost its pride and Martin wanted to give it a quick, merciful death.
    • The poachers responsible for killing the rogue's pride showing up later with the leader boasting about the massacre may seem unsettling and also doubles as Nightmare Fuel.
    • Realizing the rogue won't stop hunting them, Nate decides to do a Heroic Sacrifice so that way it'll probably forget about going after his daughters after it kills him; thankfully averted when the two lion brothers that Martin raised intervene and kill the rogue.
    • The rogue lion's death at the end could be considered a tearjerker as well since it only went rogue in the first place due to poachers killing its pride. The rogue being killed by members of its own species could also count as a Mercy Kill to put it out of its misery as it was probably suffering from grief and madness.
