- Adaptation Displacement: The movie was actually loosely based off of a novel. While the basic plot is the same, the adaptation differs in many ways from its source.
- Retroactive Recognition: Mayim Bialik played a young C.C. Bloom in one of her first major acting jobs.
- Tear Jerker: Hillary's death.
- The Woobie: Hillary becomes very sick, and even knows herself that she's not going to live much longer, which makes it not only scary for her, but heartbreaking that she won't be able to watch her daughter grow.
