* TheProblemWithLicensedGames: While not a terrible game per se, ''Blackgate'' could be seen as a less engaging rehash of ''Asylum''. Some critics have found the {{Metroidvania}} approach to make sense in concept, but the execution is a clunkier implementation of elements found in the Arkham Series. While it was initially excused in its original portable format, the ''Deluxe Edition'' console and PC port caused increased disapproval.

as someone who's played all 5 games, I can attest that she's the single worst-designed and most-frustrating final boss in the whole franchise

* ThatOneBoss: Penguin's Boss Fight, which is extremely cryptic and punishing for some players. This lone Predator-based boss suddenly drops Batman in a room with new enemy types: gatling gun-wielding thugs and aerial drones protecting The Penguin. These thugs have increased vision cones, and can rip through Batman in two bursts. Direct stealth options, like silent takedowns, are ironically ''not'' viable options, and require players to use the Batclaw at a reasonable distance [[note]]even on gargoyles, which veteran Arkham players would overlook as that was never an option prior.[[/note]] to disable their ammunition packs. It's easier said than done when contending with drones and an increasing wave of thugs just to hit Penguin three times.

** The final boss, [[spoiler:Catwoman]], not only appears out of nowhere, but takes almost exact timing to successfully counter. Oh, yeah: and for much of this fight, there is no flashing Counter icon. And [[spoiler:she]] also keeps up a string of annoyingly witty remarks while kicking Batman's ass. Luckily, players who can find all the pieces and equip the ''Blackest Night'' Batsuit are immune to damage, so they will have plenty of time to figure out their strategy without dying in the meantime.

Authors Saving Throw is now trivia and requires Word Of God.

* AuthorsSavingThrow: For those disappointed with TheReveal that [[spoiler:Black Mask was [[HijackedByGanon Hijacked by the Joker]]]] at least, considering that he's a credible threat in this game.

Final bosses don't qualify for this trope unless they are notoriously difficult by the franchise's standards.

* ThatOneAchievement: It's easy to pick up 4 out of 5 pieces for each of Batman's bonus costumes. Finding the belts to each suit, however, can cause {{Cluster F Bomb}}s when trying to locate the crates containing them. (The Blackest Night belt is in the Arkham Wing; the other three belts are gifts from [[spoiler:Catwoman]] if you go back to the last crate you're supposed to find in the last section of the game)
** By the way: unlocking all of the batsuits (including getting the belts) and unlocking all of the cutscenes requires playing through the game no less than ''three times'', beating a different boss last each time.

Not in Hindsight, since it refers to events from a game that preceded this one.

* HilariousInHindsight: The Fact that Catwoman is the main antagonist of this game despite the fact that she was a protagonist in Arkham City (Which takes place later in the timeline) Bruce and Selina's relationship really did get off to a rocky start....

Not in Hindsight, considering both games were released the same day.

* HarsherInHindsight: Catwoman's scheme revolves around [[spoiler:releasing Bane from his cold-storage vault.]] Batman would see this as especially reprehensible, considering that in ''Arkham Origins'', [[spoiler:Bane invaded the Batcave and nearly killed Alfred.]]

Game Breaker is for gameplay elements that unexpectedly trump all others. Things that make you completely immune to damage sound more like an example of Purposely Overpowered.

* GameBreaker: The ''ComicBook/BlackestNight'' Batsuit, which makes you immune to all damage. Some may find this the only way to defeat the FinalBoss (see ThatOneBoss).
** Not quite a breaker, but the Deluxe Edition has the ''WesternAnimation/BewareTheBatman'' costume available from the start of the game, and it reduces all gunshot damage by 50%, making stealth sections ''significantly'' easier.
** The Dark Knight Returns suit is even more broken. On top of damage immunity, you also get a 50% damage increase.
