  • The film is a commentary about the cheating culture present in Asian schools, the system's overemphasis on grades, and the corruption present in the school system. The school accepts 'tea money' from parents, and the afterschool worksheets given to struggling students are the same as the exam itself.
  • It also throws class relations and privilege in the mix. The richer classmates have parents that can pay their way to a good school and benefit from the work of poorer students like Lynn and Bank, who have to work harder to get opportunities.
