YMMV / As Above, So Below

• Nightmare Fuel: Plenty to go around. The majority of the movie takes place in a dark, claustrophobic environment filled with human bones and the constant threat of passages collapsing. And that's even before the Alien Geometries, ghosts, and demons show up.
• Spiritual Successor:
  • Psychological horror with an alchemical motif, with smaller patterns like mundane objects in inexplicable locations and alternate forms of physical locations, gives it a striking resemblance at times to the Silent Hill games.
  • Also bares some similarities to the Uncharted series, with the protagonists exploring ancient tombs in search of a legendary artifact, aided by a helpful notebook of clues, with things ultimately turning supernatural as they get closer to their goal.
• They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: A lot of critics lament that the movie could have been better if it augmented its potentially compelling premise instead of relying on cliches. From the get-go, it looks the film is setting up an Indiana Jones/Tomb Raider action Adventure Archaeologist story, one of the few genres that Found Footage hasn't crossed with yet. As the film goes on, however, it just becomes another haunted house horror-fest.
