YMMV / Arthur S3 E7 - "Arthur Rides the Bandwagon" / "Dad's Dessert Dilemma"

Go To

  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Arthur himself comes across this way in "Arthur Rides the Bandwagon". When the Woogles toyline becomes all the rage, we're supposed to side with him as the only one who doesn't see what's so great about it, which is all well and good, but during the first half, Arthur has a rather Holier Than Thou attitude towards his friends' new interest in Woogles, calling their new toys stupid right to their faces unprovoked and then getting frustrated when they disagree with him. We're obviously supposed to see this as him standing up to peer pressure, but since they were simply showing him their new toys (which hardly qualifies as peer pressure), Arthur really has no right to tell his friends what they can and can't like, and they're doing no harm with the Woogles, it comes off as unnecessarily harsh and uncalled for. Francine's actions at the end, in which she offers Arthur a Woogle in exchange for him saying he really wants one, seem a bit more understandable in this context, considering how rude he'd been earlier in saying he didn't want one. To make matters worse, Arthur "fixes" things by starting a new trend, giving off the message that you're only allowed to like something popular if your friend decides it is.
