YMMV / Annalynn

  • Adaptation Displacement: The 2021 version released on Steam is much more well known than the original 2016 version.
  • Awesome Music: The entire soundtrack of 2021 is filled to the brim with upbeat Mappy-seque chip-tunes that go hand in hand with the arcade gameplay. The theme to Lava Factory is especially a bop thanks to its funky beat.
  • Difficulty Spike: After the moderately easy Jungle, the Lava Factory world brings forward a massive difficulty increase through fire traps that block off parts of the level with deadly pillars of fire, more dastardly tunnel placement, and conveyor belts that throw off Annalynn's movement speed and jumps. The next two worlds to follow are only slightly easier, though the levels are still difficult since the designs are more challenging and by the time you reach them the effectiveness of the Blinding Rubies begins to weaken.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: This fan animation has Annalynn speak in the voice of Elspeth using audio from this video. As of the April 18, 2022 update, Elspeth would become the official voice actress of Annalynn.
  • Moe: Annalynn herself has a very simple, yet appealing design that looks incredibly adorable.
  • Nightmare Fuel
    • Falling into a Bottomless Pit while voice clips are turned on will result in Annalynn flat-out screaming as she falls to her death.
    • Similarly, if you fall into a body of water, you get to hear Annalynn struggling to breathe while the death theme plays.
  • Spiritual Successor: To Pac-Man and Mappy, from the main gameplay, the snakes' characteristics, and the demo sequence. 2021 adds Pac-Man Arrangement with the different level themes and a final boss mech piloted by all of the snakes while also containing greater ties to Mappy through the bonus rounds in Random mode.
  • That One Sidequest: Unlocking extra color palettes for Annalynn requires you to play every level excluding the final boss perfectly (kick off all four snakes per ruby and get the item that appears partway through all on one life). While you can play in Practice mode after clearing the game once to instantly retry levels without having to resort to reaching and perfecting them in the main game, many of the later levels are very challenging to get Perfects on, especially once you get to the Lava Factory and the game throws everything and the kitchen sink at you alongside nerfing blue snake times to the point where the entire Venom Brood must be bunched together as closely as possible before you grab a Blinding Ruby and kick them off.
