Big things are happening on TV Tropes! New admins, new designs, fewer ads, mobile versions, beta testing opportunities, thematic discovery engine, fun trope tools and toys, and much more - Learn how to help here and discuss here.
These are what we call the 'YMMV items.' Things that some people find in this work. We call them 'your mileage might vary' because not everyone sees these things in the same way. This starts discussions in the trope lists, a thing we don't want. Please use the discussion page if you'd like to discuss any of these items.
YMMV: American Pop
Too Dumb to Live - Benny. You do not put your weapon down in a hostile area just to play the piano.
Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Tony, the angry young man son of Benny who showed some promise as a songwriter before he got blindsided by a drug addiction. He is such an over the top whiner that it's damn near impossible to feel bad for him at all.
Vindicated by History - American Pop didn't make its money back when it was released theatrically. It cost $1 million to license the entire soundtrack. The clearance issues made sure that the movie didn't come out on video until 1997. Now it's one of Bakshi's most recognized and acclaimed films.
