• Accidental Aesop: Even if you have a valid point, if you're not prepared to back it up, your argument loses credibility with the person with whom you disagree. Stan failed to have his complaints against Hayley and Jeff taken seriously because he showed he was completely incapable of living on minimum wage due to his stupid decisions.
• Crosses the Line Twice: Stan trying to comfort Francine as they listen in horror as a man threatens his partner in the slums before killing her.
  Stan: It's okay. It's over Francine. She's dead. She's finally dead. She's dead now.
• Jerkass Woobie: Stan is not the nicest person around, but his Trauma Conga Line is nonetheless brutal to watch.
• Squick: The diseased cat graphically giving birth in Stan and Francine's squalid apartment, with a newborn kitten visibly sliding out of it covered in mucus.
• Strawman Has a Point: None of Stan's complaints about Hayley or Jeff are invalid. They're two grown adults who live in his house rent-free, use his utilities, and eat all his food without contributing anything to the household. Jeff is mentioned to have a minimum wage job at a chicken restaurant, but nevertheless, he still doesn't contribute, while Hayley is perpetually stuck in community college and doesn't have a job at all at this point in the series. They're practically the definition of freeloaders.
