  • Awesome Music: The show's intro theme perfectly captures the excitement of discovery. Have a listen
  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: When the Deinocheirus is walking around, it briefly stops to observe two Protoceratops... emerging from a burrow. Granted, there is scientific evidence for it, but there's no real link to the bird-dinosaur theme the episode carries, and are barely seen again.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: "The World of Sea Monsters" opens with a Tyrannosaurus that has entered the ocean being attacked and eaten by a mosasaur. Sound like a familiar scenario, palaeo-fans? Although here it's an adult rather then a chick.
  • Narm Charm: The Deinocheirus's fights are a tad ridiculous, especially when it suplexes an attacking Tarbosaurus and slaps away attacking raptors... and yet its still awesome.
  • Special Effects Failure: While the actual CGI has been commended for being top-notch, the filming locations of Adventure Playground Rotorua in New Zealand has been repeatedly criticized for the fact numerous scenes are clearly set on flat, manicured golf courses, complete with sand traps visible in the backgrounds, rather than anything that looks like prehistoric wilderness.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character:
    • Though with some inaccuracies (like the knuckle walking and the incorrect tail shape), the Spinosaurus of the program is still the best looking Spinosaurus ever seen in a documentary, but sadly it only appears to show how badass marine reptiles were when it gets killed by an unidentified pliosaur, instead of being used to showcase how different the dinosaur was respecting other giant theropods, which could have been an episode of its own.
    • For that matter, the pliosaur who attacks the Spinosaurus could have been a good chance to show how other lineages of marine reptiles predating the mosasaurs were. However, the documentary only focuses on the mosasaurs and the pliosaur only amounts to a small scene at the beginning of the episode to introduce the concept of marine reptiles and it isn't even mentioned by name.
  • Ugly Cute: The Deinocheirus looks like a giant spoonbill with enormous claws and makes bear sounds, yet looks very endearing.
  • Visual Effects of Awesome: The CGI of the documentary is very good and well-detailed.
